home Malyaban Chatterjee is an extremely talented vocal musician who has created a huge impact in the world of Hindustani Classical Music of today. He was born in a highly traditional family. He inherits a musical heritage starting from his grand uncle, Late Shiv Kumar Chatterjee, disciple of Sri Nagen Dutta. Malyaban started his initial training at the tender age of five under Sri Sunil Neogi, a foremost disciple of Pandit Narayan Rao Joshi. Later he had the priviledge of receiving extensive taleem for fifteen years from Pandit Manas Chakraborty, a name to reckon with in the contemporary musical world of India and the worthy son of the legendary vocalist, Late Sangeetacharya Tarapada Chakraborty, an institution by himself. Malyaban also has an intensive talim of thumri style in Kirana gharana ... "talim", "tabiyat", "taiyari" and also a tuneful voice have added a rare dimension to Malyaban's music which captures the hearts of the listeners instantly. He has also been learning tabla playing since a long time in the past. |
